Making of a Background

Hello Stamping Friends:

I had the best day today. My friend Lil and I took a trip to Steinbach. That is where she likes to get her hair done. So while she was getting her hair done she dropped me off at the mall. I really enjoyed walking around this mall and even got to do some shopping. People were so friendly.

When she was done we went to a Mennonite Restaurant I did not catch the name but the food was awesome. Then we went to a Scrapbooking store and I was able to get reacquainted with the owner as she I had taken a copic course together. She has a wonderful store. Got a few goodies there too.

While we were browsing at the stamps there was a background stamp that I was really drawn to. I thought boy that sure would be a neat stamp for a Zindorf card. I almost bought it and then the stamping angel said "Peggy, you could do that with the stamps you have, just try it" so as soon as I returned home I took out the stamps, the wheat from Autumn Days and the grass from Inspired by Nature and this is what I came up with.

I did it in a rush because if it did not work Lil was going back to Steinbach tomorrow to babysit for her son and was willing to pick it up for me but I don't thing that will be necessary do you?

Hi Stamping Friends:

If my typing keeps on going like the last five words I may have to learn how all over again. I can not believe it has been over a month since my last post. My husband and I have been ill for several weeks but I think we are on the mend. For the first time in many many days my head doesn't feel like it is swollen with a balloon inside.

I even did some housework today, I am so blessed to have a husband who doesn't worry about how the house looks all the time. That is not to say it was a total disaster area but dust bunnies to multiply etc. etc.

Anyhow, I have some club meets coming up next week and my dear senior citizen class this week so I had to get busy and come up with some cards for them.

In the process I was reading all the emails that I received this week and one of the topics was on " how do you store your scraps". I was quite interested in this topic as I have tried several different ideas but they all failed me at some point. One lady suggested large ziploc bags in the folder that the main paper was stored in and I thought I would give that a try, I had tried drawers with color families but by the time you sorted through the draw you missed what you were looking for, go figure.

Anyway I did this one afternoon this week and when I was finished I decided that I should try to make a card from the scraps. So I did. Here it is, hope you like it. I got the color combo from a card that I had saved but unfortunately there was no water mark so I can give her color combo credit directly, but thank you.

Sketch Challenges

Hello Stamping Friends:

I am really enjoying finding sketch challenges on either the forums I am on or on blogs that I visit. Sketches make one stretch their creativity and it also gives us a chance to use supplies that we have on hand not having to worry about, oh darn I don't have that stamp set, or don't have that paper, don't have that punch etc.


Sketches are provided for you to make it your own. You can change the orientation of the layout, you can mix it up etc. I am finding them to be fun and at the same time allowing my own creativity to come out. I hope you will participate in some challenges too and see what you can create.

This is my card that I created from her sketch.

Here is how I made this card.

1. My card base is white card stock cut 4 1/4" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2".

2. The next layer is a piece of Real Red card stock cut 4"x 5 1/4". I stamped the background stamp Bella Toile with Vera Mark and sponged the edges with Chocolate Chip.

3. The two pieces that have the stripes were made by layering the DSP from Christmas Cocoa onto a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock that was 2 1/4" square and the DSP piece was 2" square.

4. The centre piece was a layer of Chocolate Chip cut 2 1/2" square, the Real Red was 2 1/4" and a 2" circle was cut.

5. I used the SU markers Always Artichoke and Chocolate Chip to color the stamp image. I added a Real Red bow make from 1/4" ribbon. I also added some Dazzling Diamonds to the top of the cones.

6. The sentiment is from Oval All. I used SU markers Real Red, Chocolate Chip and Always Artichoke to color it, punched it out with the large oval and layered it on a piece of Chocolate Chip that had been punched out with the Scallop Oval Punch.

Autum Days Christmas

Hello Stamping Friends:

How is everyone today. Hope you are keeping warm if you are in Canada and cool if you are in the States.

I have been busy in my stamp room, coming up with some new Christmas Cards.
The one that I have for you today is from the stamp set called Autumn Days. I just love these pine cones. I colored the stamp with SU markers. These markers are great for using multiple colors on a stamp. You just could not get the same coverage with stamp pads no matter how small. I used Always Artichoke and Chocolate Chip to color the image.

The white card base is 4 1/4 square. I layered a 2" piece of Always Artichoke with a strip of Real Red that had been punched with out scallop border punch. I also added some paper piercing to the Always Artichoke piece.

I used my Nestabilities to make the scalloped circles in Chocolate Chip, Real Red and the white that I stamp the image on.

I used my stamp ma jig to make the greeting into two lines versus the one line that is on the stamp originally. I find I am using my stamp ma jig more and more to create these kind of images. If you don't have one you might want to put it on your wish list.

Autumn Days

Hello Stamping Friends:

I actually make this card on Saturday but wanted to spread them out so that I would have some blog posts each day for you.

I wish I could tell stories like some of the other ladies do on their blogs but I am just not a chatter box. In real life I am actually very shy but I can come out to play with stamps and paper almost anytime.

I was looking on line at a old issue of Card Maker I think that is what it was called, any way there was a card layout there that was clean and simple but of course it was stamped with a stamp that I did not own nor did I have any that were close to that size or spread out as much.

I decided that I would make my own floral design to fill the card area. I used the stamp ma jig for placement of all the stems. First I stamped the long stem design in really rust, then I stamped the wheat stem in More Mustard and the stem with the balls in Chocolate Chip. I was quite pleased with how it turned out. I added the sentiment from Kind and Caring Thoughts hostess set.

I used a piece of DSP from the Autumn Traditions series paper, scalloped the edges with the SU border punch, sponged the edges and added the Soft Suede ribbon. It was clean and simple and took hardly and time at all.

I really have to learn to take better pictures, sorry for the fuzzy look.
